Video may help search for missing Woodstock woman

Police detectives are hoping 96 hours of security camera video recordings will help them find a missing Woodstock woman.
Sue Ann Ray, 26, was last seen about 7 p.m. Friday, said Woodstock Police Sgt. Dan King.
The Ford minivan she was driving was found about 11 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart on Riverstone Parkway in Canton.
King said the store's security staff was reviewing the videotapes to see if Ray could be seen parking the van.
"The key to it all could be in that video," King said Tuesday.
The last person to see Sue Ann Ray, King said, was her husband, Quinton Ray. Sue Ann Ray stopped at her husband's garage in Jasper to get the minivan serviced.
The Rays are separated and in the process of getting a divorce, King said. They have a 5-year-old daughter.
Quinton Ray was arrested by Woodstock police on Monday on charges unrelated to the disappearance of his wife, King said.
He declined to reveal the nature of the charges.
Sue Ann Ray is 5 feet tall and weighs 110 pounds. She has blond hair and green eyes.
The family has established a Web site: www.geocities.com/FindSueAnn. http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/cherokee/0805/31missing.html

Reward offered for leads on missing woman
Saturday, September 10, 2005 4:01 AM EDT
By Ashley Fuller
Cherokee Tribune Staff Writer
The family of a Woodstock woman reported missing two weeks ago is offering a reward for information that leads to her safe return.
Sue Ann Ray, 26, was reported missing Aug. 29 by her family. The single mom was last seen Aug. 26 in Jasper, where she went to visit her estranged husband to pick up some belongings, according to her family.
Her abandoned van was found at the Canton Wal-Mart Supercenter on Aug. 29.
The family has opened a reward fund with Bank of America that people can donate to starting on Monday. The family already has received $5,000 from the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation for the fund.
"We need her back. We need her back right now," her father, Danny Jenkins of Augusta, said Friday. "Time is of the essence."
Det. Sgt. Dan King of the Woodstock Police Department said the department is continuing its investigation of the disappearance, which currently is classified as a missing persons case.
There are no suspects, but police are interviewing several "people of interest."
Ms. Ray's estranged husband, Quinton Ray, who was arrested on a terroristic threat charge that King said was unrelated to her disappearance, has bonded out of jail. The police department has not released details of the crime he was charged with.
The department also continues to investigate security tapes from the Wal-Mart where her 1998 maroon-with-gray-trim Ford Windstar sport van was found, King said.
The tapes show that Ms. Ray went inside the store Aug. 26, according to her family, and her personal belongings were found in the abandoned van.
Ms. Ray is described as 5 feet tall and weighing 110 pounds with blond hair and green eyes. She has two tattoos: a red and black tribal tattoo on her lower back and a flower on her right ankle.
Anyone with information about the case or who saw someone driving Ms. Ray's van, is asked to call King at (770) 294-7231 or e-mail him at Dking@ci.woodstock.ga.us. For information about the case, visit the Web site at www.Geocities.Com/FindSueAnn.
Ms. Ray's cousin, Heather Teague, was abducted in Spottsville, Ky., 10 years ago on the same date Ms. Ray was last seen. For information on her case, visit the Web site at www.WhereIsHeatherTeague.com.

No new leads in case of Missing Sue Ann Ray

Woodstock Police Sergeant Dan King said Monday, "We have absolutely nothing new and nothing different," regarding the Sue Ann Ray missing person case. The young woman, last seen in Jasper, has been missing since Friday, August 26. "We're still following up leads," King said. The investigation has identified no suspects, no persons of interest, King added. "We're about to turn the case over to the GBI," he said. "She's been missing so long that we don't even know that there's been a crime involved. It's just a missing persons case. We've asked the GBI to step in and take it over."About four years ago, Sue Ann Ray worked at J. R.'s Bottle Shop on Highway 53 in Jasper, said Teresa Ray, the missing woman's mother-in-law. Interviewed at J.R.'s where she is employed, Teresa Ray said her son, Quinton, last saw his wife at his home in Jasper the Friday the young woman went missing. The couple had been separated for some time before Sue Ann Ray's disappearance.
Teresa Ray said her daughter-in-law had been living in Woodstock and working for a trucking company there. Quinton Ray filed a missing person report, seeking Sue Ann Ray, with the Woodstock Police the Monday after his wife's disappearance. "He went to the county [Cherokee] first," Teresa Ray said, "and they sent him to Woodstock." Teresa Ray said her daughter-in-law has gone missing before, but Ms. Ray believes members of the young woman's family knew where she was during that previous disappearance. "I won't say no one knew where she was," Teresa Ray said. "She had gone off, and her husband didn't know where she was for up to five days." Teresa Ray indicated that this time no family members seem to know the young woman's whereabouts, and she has not been heard from in over a month. "It was four weeks Friday [September 23]," Teresa Ray said.It is hoped increased publicity may generate more leads in the case. "She'll be on that America's Most Wanted -- it's my understanding, next Saturday," Ray said. Any information regarding the whereabouts of Sue Ann Ray, should be forwarded to Sergeant Dan King of the Woodstock Police at 770-294-7231.

Missing woman s reward now stands at $100K
The reward to find a missing Woodstock woman has increased and so has the effort to find her.
Sue Ann Ray, 26, was reported missing Aug. 29 by her family after last being seen three days earlier in Jasper, where she went to visit her estranged husband. Her abandoned van was found at the Canton Wal-Mart Supercenter on Aug. 29.
The reward fund Ms. Ray's family started at Bank of America has received a $100,000 donation from a private donor, said her father, Danny Jenkins of Augusta.
The Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation has given $5,000 and private donations also have been received.
Jenkins said an application has been made to the Governor's office to add another $10,000 to the fund.
"That will shake the trees," he said of the increased reward. "Somebody saw something. It has been 40 days. It is time for this to go to bed. It is time for who is involved to come forward."
The GBI has stepped in to take over the case, Sgt. Dan King of the Woodstock Police Department said. He said the GBI has more resources to devote to the search, adding he still will be involved in the investigation.
No suspects have been named in the case, but police have interviewed several "people of interest."
Ms. Ray's estranged husband Quinton Ray was arrested on a terroristic threat charge King said was unrelated to her disappearance. Police did not release details of the crime and Ray has bonded out of jail.
Ms. Ray, who has a 5-year-old daughter, is described as 5 feet tall and weighing 110 pounds with blond hair and green eyes. She is a Cherokee High School graduate and has two tattoos: a red and black tribal tattoo on her lower back and a flower on her right ankle. She was last seen driving a 1998 maroon with gray trim Ford Windstar sport van.
Anyone with information about the case or who saw someone driving Ms. Ray's van, is asked to call Sgt. King at (770) 294-7231 or e-mail him at Dking@ci.woodstock.ga.us. For information about the case, visit the Web site at www.Geocities.Com/FindSueAnn.

Special Thanks to FOX5 News in Atlanta who did a segment regarding the disappearance of Sue Ann Ray tonight. It's about time somebody decided to broadcast Sue Ann and her story. This will reair in it's entirety at 1 a.m. tonight if you missed it @ 10
Missing Woodstock Woman More than one hundred thousand dollars is being offered tonight for the safe return of a missing Woodstock woman. 26-year-old Sue Ann Ray disappeared fourty-two days ago... and authorities suspect foul play. The only sister of Ray came in from Augusta today to meet us at the Woodstock Police Department. The missing woman's family is hoping added publicity and more than one hundred thousand dollars will lead to her whereabouts. Sandy Chasm says her sister left her Woodstock apartment the afternoon of August 26th. It's believe she followed Interstate 575 to Pickens County to the home based auto mechanic business of her estranged husband to have some work done on a maroon van like this one. Sue Ann Ray's maroon van was found in this parking lot of this Wal Mart in Canton, about ten miles from the home of her estranged husband where she was last seen. The strange part of it according to her sister is that the van had been backed into the spot. Sue Ann Rays' family and friends have posted hundreds of fliers in Cheroke and Pickens county, but after fourty two days without any sightings. Authorities suspect foul play. Which is why an anonymous family friend has offered to add one hundred thousand dollars, to an existing five thousand dollar reward fund to help find Ray. Woodstock police say they have a number of leads, but none that point to any suspect. Anyone with information about the where abouts of Sue Ann Ray is asked to contact Woodstock police or the Georgia Bureau Of Investigation. (10/07/05 @ 10:00PM)

$105,000 reward for missing Woodstock woman
« Reply #8 on: Oct 9th, 2005, 6:26pm » |
|
By DON PLUMMER The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 10/09/05
Friends and family of a Woodstock woman missing for more than a month are hoping a $105,000 reward will bring answers in her disappearance.
Sueann Ray, 26, has not been seen or heard from since Aug. 26, said Woodstock police Sgt. Dan King.
"Its like she vanished from the face of the earth," King said Saturday.
Ray's cellphone has not been used since she disappeared, King said. Her sister, Sandy Chasm, said Ray never made it to pick up her 6-year-old daughter that night, something Chasm said had never happened before.
Ray had been separated from her husband, Quinton Ray, for about six months, Chasm said. He is the last person to have seen the missing woman, according to King and Chasm.
"Sueann was going to Quinton's that night to have him change the oil in her van," Chasm said. "She talked to a friend while she was waiting on him to get home and the mother of another girl about enrolling Charity in cheerleading that night."
Those were the last conversations Ray had before disappearing, Chasm said.
Quinton Ray is neither a suspect nor a person of interest in his estranged wife's disappearance, King said. For that matter, police have not identified any suspects, he said.
"We're hoping that someone will come forward to help us," King said.
Ray's maroon 1998 Ford Windstar was found backed into a space in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart on Riverstone Parkway in Canton about 11 p.m. on Aug. 29. There was no sign of a struggle inside the vehicle, King said. The van was undamaged, Chasm said. There were a couple of odd things about the vehicle, however, Ray's sister said.
"Well, for one thing it was clean, not trashy inside, and that was unlike my sister," Chasm said. The other, she said, is that Ray never backed into a parking space. "She couldn't even back up a bicycle," Chasm said.
An earlier $5,000 reward for information about Ray was increased this weekend when a friend of the family, who asked not to be identified, added $100,000 to the reward, King said.
Already, family and friends of Sueann Ray have repeatedly canvassed the area from Jasper to Woodstock trying to find clues to her disappearance. More than 5,000 fliers with her sister's picture and information about her disappearance have been handed out, Chasm said. She hopes someone will notice the face of the 5-foot, 110-pound blonde mother with green eyes and remember something that will help police.

Reward for SueAnn

Reported by: Jennifer Leslie Web Editor: Michael King Last Modified: 10/10/2005 8:05:35 PM

Police suspect foul play in the disappearance of a young mother from Woodstock. 26-year-old Sue Ann Ray has been missing since late August, and now a family friend has anonymously added $100,000 to the reward fund.
For six weeks now, Sandy Chasm has worked nonstop to try to get the word out about her sister's disappearance, hoping anyone with information will come forward.
“I just keep hoping that she’s still alive. That keeps me strong,” Chasm said.
Ray disappeared Friday, August 26, after she went to her estranged husband’s home in Jasper. Quinton Ray told police that she was there to get an oil change he runs out back, and that she left that evening.
No one has seen or heard from her since.
“Based on the fact that it’s out of character for her to be gone for such a long period of time without talking to her family and friends, we think there’s more to it than just a missing person,” said Woodstock police Sgt. Dan King.
According to investigators, three days after Ray disappeared, police found her minvan abandoned in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Canton.
“It was backed in perfectly straight, no way she backed in, no way," said Chasm.
Woodstock police say the minvan is a maroon 1998 Ford Windstar. Police have interviewed Ray’s family members and friends, but they have not identified any suspects.
Perhaps the hardest part, Chasm says, is explaining ray's disappearance to her six-year-old daughter.
“She misses her mom, wants mom back and doesn't understand why we can't find her," said Chasm.
Family members are hoping a new $100,000 reward will be the key to solving this case. The Woodstock Police Department is urging anyone who knows anything that could help them solve this mystery to call 770-592-6030.
A website has also been set up for people to provide information as well. That site is http://www.findsueann.org/ The reward for information stands at $105,000.

Two Women Missing From One Family

11Alive has done a special show tonight that includes Heather and SueAnn. You can see the live feed from the link below.
The search for a missing mother from Woodstock has family members feeling a sense of deja vu. 26-year-old Sueann Ray was last seen six weeks ago on the 10th anniversary of her cousin’s disappearance in Kentucky.
On August 26, 1995, Heather Teague was abducted from a beach in Spottsville, Ky., in broad daylight.
She was 23 years old at the time and has not been seen since.
Her case remains unsolved .
"You never know the pain a mother and father go through when they lose a child or a child is missing until it happens to you," said Danny Jenkins.
Jenkins has spent years helping his sister deal with the disappearance of her daughter, Heather. Now he’s in the same situation.
His daughter, Sueann, has been missing since August 26. She disappeared ten years to the day after her cousin’s abduction here.
“It's a feeling you can't describe,” Jenkins said. “It's terrible, and I don't know how my sister made it. I don't know how she's alive. I don't know how she's done it for 10 years, because I can't. I can't go through it for 10 years, I'll tell you that."
Sueann, who was a teenager when her cousin disappeared, recently sent an e-mail to her aunt.
“I am sure that I can help,” Sueann wrote. “I will do anything I can. I picture this happening in my head, and it doesn’t make sense…Something is definitely wrong…We will bring her home, one way or another.”
Three days after sending that e-mail, Sueann also disappeared.
Police suspect foul play, but they haven’t identified any suspects.
"I just have to keep hope that she is alive,” said Sandy Chasm, Sueann’s sister. "I want her home so I can talk to her."
Relatives are hoping at least one family mystery will be solved soon.
Anyone with information about Sueann Ray’s disappearance, is asked to call the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-597-TIPS.
Her family is offering a $105,000 reward for information that leads to finding her http://www.11alive.com/news/news_ar...x?storyid=70393

Heather Teague's Cousin Also Missing

In August, we told you about the tenth anniversary of the disappearance of Heather Teague from Newburgh Beach. And now, one of Heather's relatives has also vanished.
Police suspect foul play in the disappearance of 26-year-old Sue Ann Ray of Woodstock, Georgia. Ray is the first cousin of Heather Teague, and strangely enough, she too was missing on the tenth anniversary of Heather's disappearance. We get that story from Jennifer Leslie out of the NBC affiliate in Atlanta.
For six weeks now, Sandy Chasm has worked nonstop to try to get the word out about her sister's disappearance, hoping anyone with information will come forward. "I just keep hoping that she's still alive, keeps me strong."
Sue Ann Ray disappeared on August 26th, a Friday, after she went to her estranged husband's home in Jasper. Quinton Ray told police she was there to get an oil change in the shop he runs out back and she left that evening. No one has seen or heard from her since.
Sgt. Dan King of the Woodstock Police Department says, "Based on the fact that it's out of character for her to be gone for such a long period of time, without talking to her family and friends, we think there's more to it than just a missing person."
Three days after Ray disappeared, police found her mini van abandoned in the Walmart parking lot in Canton. Someone backed it into the spot and left it there.
Sandy tells us, "It was backed in perfectly straight. No way she backed in - no way."
Woodstock police say the mini van is a maroon 1998 Ford Windstar. Police have interviewed Ray's family members and friends, but they have not identified any suspects.
Sandy says, "It's been horrible, a nightmare, like a bad dream and you don't wake up." Perhaps the hardest part, she says, is explaining Ray's disappearance to her six-year-old daughter. "She misses her mom, wants mom back and doesn't understand why we can't find her."
Family members are hoping a new $100,000 reward will be the key to solving this case.
Sarah Teague told us there has been some movement in the investigation to find out what happened to her daughter. And she hopes to be able to share that information in the near future.
There have been no arrests in either case.

Missing Woman's Dad Speaks Out

The father of a missing mother from Woodstock is pointing the finger at her husband.
Danny Jenkins believes Quinton Ray played a role in the disappearance of Sueann Ray, who’s been missing since August 26.
"This monster is either holding my daughter, or he's killed her,” Jenkins said. “This guy knows where my daughter is."
Quinton Ray declined 11Alive’s request for an interview, but his attorney, David Cannon, said Ray knows nothing about his wife’s disappearance.
He said Ray continues to cooperate fully with investigators and hopes and prays that his wife and the mother of their child will be found safe.
Woodstock police have not named Ray or anyone else a suspect in this case.
Police will only say they’re focusing on a few different people as part of their investigation. Still, Ray is in trouble with the law.
When he went to the Woodstock Police Department to report his wife missing on August 29, he ended up spending the next three nights in jail.
He was charged with making terroristic threats, but his attorney insists he’s innocent.
So far, police have not released any details about the charge, but they said it’s not directly related to Sueann’s disappearance.
According to police, Quinton and Sueann Ray were separated, and he was the last one who saw her when she stopped at his home in Jasper so he could service her car.
He told police she left that evening.
Three days later, police found Sueann’s minivan abandoned in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Canton.
No one has seen or heard from her in almost seven weeks.
Her relatives are encouraged that police have received new tips since a family friend anonymously added $100,000 to the reward fund.
Anyone that may have information that might help investigators, is asked to call the GBI at 1-800-597-TIPS.

Disappearance Gains National Media Scrutiny
By Barbara P. Jacoby

Danny Jenkins has gained some help in the search for his missing daughter - the rest of the country.
The disappearance of single mom Sue Ann Ray, 26, of Woodstock was featured Tuesday night on Nancy Grace's CNN Headline News show and Greta Van Susteren's Fox News show.
Both shows are known for their coverage of missing persons cases, most recently the intense focus on missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway.
Ms. Grace is expected to feature the story again today and will cover it regularly as warranted, according to the network. Jenkins and his family also were interviewed by Atlanta TV stations and have been in contact with other national news programs.
Jenkins said the increased media attention is greatly appreciated, but has been overwhelming.
"We're getting more attention and hopefully it's going to help with the investigation. It makes for long days," said Jenkins, who got home at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning after Ms. Grace's show only to wake up at 5 a.m. for an interview with an Atlanta TV station. "I just want to get my daughter back. It ain't right. It ain't fair."
Ms. Ray was reported missing Aug. 29 to the Woodstock Police Department. She was last seen three days earlier in Jasper, where she went to visit her estranged husband, who she had been separated from for a few months. Her abandoned van was found at the Canton Wal-Mart Supercenter on Aug. 29.
The GBI has joined the Woodstock Police in investigating the disappearance, which remains classified as a missing persons case although foul play is suspected. No suspects have been named, but police say they have interviewed "persons of interest."
Her family has set up a reward fund that now tops $105,000.
Jenkins said his family plans to continue posting fliers and is working to set up a billboard between Canton and Jasper and a cross memorial at the site where her van was found.
Jenkins said he was pleased with the Woodstock Police efforts, but has not seen much action since the GBI stepped in to assist.
"I don't think the GBI gives two hoots," Jenkins said. "I'd like to see them go all out and do their job. They need to find my daughter."
GBI Spokesman John Bankhead said the agency is dedicated to the case and they believe foul play was involved.
"We are doing everything we can to try to get the word out," he said, adding the case is on their Web site and they have been conducting interviews and pursuing leads. "So far it's not encouraging."
Shortly after her disappearance, Ms. Ray's estranged husband Quinton Ray was arrested on a terroristic threat charge, which police said was unrelated to the case. Police have said he is cooperating with their investigation.
Jenkins said he has spoken to Ray once since his daughter's disappearance.
"I told him he needs to cooperate with the police, clear his name and help me find my daughter," Jenkins said. "He got a lawyer."
Ray's attorney David Cannon Sr. said his client filed the missing person report and has fully cooperated with police.
"He certainly hopes and asks that anyone who knows anything about the disappearance of his wife to turn that information over to the Woodstock Police and GBI," said Cannon, whose law office is in Canton. "He hopes that his wife and the mother of their child will be found soon."
According to Cannon, Ms. Ray visited Ray Aug. 26 at his home in Jasper so he could do a tune-up and oil change on the minivan in preparation for a possible trip to Augusta to visit Jenkins. Her family has confirmed she went to Ray's home after leaving her job with a trucking company.
Ray started to do the service and then the two shared a pizza for dinner, Cannon said. He said Ms. Ray received a cell phone call about her daughter's participation in a cheerleading program and left before the work was done on her minivan.
Police say she left Jasper at 6:30 or 7 p.m. based on their investigation. She was to meet someone at 7 p.m. in reference to the cheerleading program, but never showed, according to her family. Her cell phone also stopped working at 7 p.m., according to her family.
Ray already had picked their 6-year-old daughter, Charity, up from school for the weekend, as per their arrangement, Cannon said. On Sunday, he did not hear from Ms. Ray so he called her sister to see what the plans were to return the little girl - whether to bring her to Ms. Ray's apartment that night or to school Monday morning. He learned Ms. Ray had not arrived in Augusta nor been heard from, so he filed a police report, Cannon said.
The same day the missing persons report was filed, the Canton Police Department at 11 p.m. found Ms. Ray's 1998 maroon with gray trim Ford Windstar sport van in the Canton Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot.
Security tapes from Wal-Mart show that Ms. Ray went inside the store at about 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26, the day she was last seen, but police released no other details.
All her personal belongings were still inside the minivan, according to her family. The minivan also was very clean, which her family said is unusual for Ms. Ray, and it was backed into a space - something they say Ms. Ray would never do.
The department was called out to Ms. Ray's Woodstock apartment in July on a domestic call, but no report was made and no charges were filed, according to police. Cannon said Ray and Ms. Ray were "still talking with each other" and that neither had filed for divorce.
Ms. Ray is described as 5 feet tall and weighing 110 pounds with blond hair and green eyes. She is a Cherokee High School graduate and has two tattoos: a red and black tribal tattoo on her lower back and a flower on her right ankle.
Anyone with information about the case or who saw someone driving Ms. Ray's van, is asked to call Sgt. Dan King at (770) 294-7231 or e-mail him at Dking@ci.woodstock.ga.us.

$105,000 reward offered in Sue Ann Ray Case A reward, offered for information in the Sue Ann Ray missing person case, stands at $105,000, Sergeant Dan King of the Woodstock Police said Monday. King also said he believes the case is more than a simple missing person as it is out of character for Ray to be out of communication with her family for this length of time. Twenty-six-year-old, Ray, a former resident of Pickens County and mother of a six-year-old daughter, was last seen in Jasper, Friday, August 26. Separated from her husband, Quinton Ray, and living and working in Woodstock, Ms. Ray returned to Jasper the afternoon of August 26 for her husband to perform maintenance on her vehicle. Quinton Ray is a self-employed mechanic. King said police know Sue Ann Ray's business in Jasper that day "from his [Quinton Ray's] statement to us and from statements she [Sue Ann Ray] made to other people [prior to her disappearance]." King said Woodstock Police took a statement from Quinton Ray the Monday following his wife's disappearance, when Mr. Ray went to Woodstock Police to file a missing person report. Authorities discovered Sue Ann Ray's vehicle the evening of that same Monday, parked at the Canton Wal-Mart. Asked if surveillance cameras covering the lot had captured images of the vehicle's driver, King said he would not comment on the facts of the investigation. King said police still have no suspects or persons of interest in the case. The reward, he said, seeking new information in the case, was recently upped from $5,000 originally put forward by the Sund/Carrington Foundation of California. A local benefactor added $100,000 to that amount. "That came from a friend of the family who wishes to remain anonymous," King said. Investigation of the case has been shifted to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, King said. "We suspect that it is more than just a missing person," King said. Given her prior pattern, King explained, it would be out of character for Sue Ann Ray to be out of communication with her family. Because the case spans three jurisdictions [Cherokee County, Woodstock City, Pickens County], it is best for the GBI to be in charge of the case, King said, since that agency's authority crosses county and city boundaries. "We've asked the GBI to take the lead in the investigation," King said. "We will be here and assist them." Anyone with information pertinent to the case is asked to contact one of the following agencies: GBI -- 1-888-233-5680 Woodstock Police 770-294-7231 Pickens County Sheriff 706-253-8900.
